About Course

Start with what the bladder does and where a cancer can arise. Learn the urothelial lining, bladder wall layers, pelvic regional lymph nodes, why cancer develops, common risks, symptoms and the diagnostic workup before any registry codes appear.

Then follow an abstractor’s workflow: decide reportability, primary site and histology using the 2026 Urinary Solid Tumor Rules; count primaries and assign sequence and bladder laterality; use diagnosis-year grade and staging references; read surgery, medication administration and radiation completion records; code treatment actually delivered. Short source decisions and reviews follow each step.

Finish with five full fictional 2026 chart packets and an interactive abstract worksheet, including source-based registry text practice, followed by the course summary, final exam and improvement questionnaire. The teaching dropdowns are a constrained practice set; check exact EOD, grade, SSDI, surgery and treatment codes against the diagnosis-year SEER, SEER*RSA and STORE manuals for a real abstract.

Course Content

Start Here: Bladder and Urothelial Cancer Foundations
Begin with normal bladder anatomy and function, how tumors develop and spread, symptoms, cystoscopy, pathology, and treatment before registry rules.

  • Meet the Bladder: Anatomy and Normal Function
  • How Bladder Cancer Begins and Presents
  • A Patient’s Bladder Cancer Workup and Treatment
  • Bladder Foundations: Summary and Clinical Check

Module 1: Bladder Anatomy and Diagnostic Source Trail
Locate bladder subsites and wall layers; follow hematuria workup, cystoscopy, TURBT pathology, and imaging. Separate clinical suspicion, confirmed diagnosis, histology, and depth of invasion. Includes interactive source decisions, recap, review, and feedback.

Module 2: Bladder Reportability, Multiple Primaries, and Histology
Apply 2026 SEER bladder coding guidance and the 2026.1 Urinary Solid Tumor Rules. Separate nonreportable findings from in situ and invasive carcinoma; choose bladder subsite; work the multiple-primary and histology rules in order. Includes source-based interactive practice, recap, and review.

Module 3: Bladder Grade, EOD, and Summary Stage
Code bladder grade by clinical and pathological time frame, assign EOD Primary Tumor, Regional Nodes, and Mets from supported depth and spread, then reconcile Summary Stage. Practice TURBT versus cystectomy, pelvic and common iliac nodes, and uncertain distant findings.

Module 4: Bladder Surgery and First-Course Treatment
Code delivered bladder treatment from the physician plan, operative report, administration record, and radiation completion summary. Apply 2026 bladder surgery codes, distinguish TURBT, BCG, intravesical chemotherapy, cystectomy and diversion, and document systemic therapy, radiation phases, dates, and sequence. Includes interactive source practice, recap, review, and feedback.

Module 5: Bladder Practice Abstracts
Five realistic, fictional bladder records with physician notes, imaging, cystoscopy, complete pathology, treatment documentation, and source-based coding exercises. Apply reportability, primary site, histology, grade, EOD, Summary Stage, surgery, systemic therapy, radiation, and sequence using the diagnosis-year manuals. Work each chart before opening its answer guide.

Module 6: Bladder Boot Camp Wrap-Up and Final Exam
A separate course-wide recap, final exam and course review covering the diagnostic source trail, reportability, urinary Solid Tumor Rules, bladder grade, EOD, Summary Stage, first-course treatment and complete cancer-story text.
